Accessibility Information and Help using the Interactive Activity Map (IAM)
|
This page is designed to guide users who are visually impaired or otherwise cannot easily use a mapping application. If you need immediate accessibility assistance, please call the SmartWay Transportation Partnership Call Center at (734) 214-4767 during regular business hours. The Interactive Activity Map (IAM) is designed for SmartWay and NCDC partners and others to view online maps related to transportation energy consumption and emission reductions. The IAM uses data from SmartWay Partners, National Transportation Idle-Free Corridors, NCDC Retrofit Projects, School Bus USA Projects, Ethanol (E85) and Biodiesel fueling stations, State idling laws, and other related data. The map allows users to visualize the location of projects for specific fuel consumption and pollution reduction projects. The map also helps truck drivers find work-related facilities such as the nearest electrified truck stop or alternative-fuel station. This information empowers users to reduce emissions from vehicles, improve air quality, and contribute to the achievement of SmartWay and NCDC fuel efficiency and air quality goals. The rest of this Web page describes in detail how to use map features and tools. If you need help with accessibility of this Web site, please call us at the number above. US Map Home Screen Select a New State Tool Summary Data Detail Data Search Map Features Printable Help Welcome to the SmartWay and NCDC IAM. From the US Map Home screen, the user may begin browsing by either clicking on the appropriate state in the map or selecting a state from the drop-down menu and clicking "Go". To select a state, pan over the map and a tag will display which state is being selected. When the user finds the state they want, select that state by clicking on it. To select a state from the drop-down menu, select the drop-down menu and scroll down until the desired state is reached. Select the state by clicking on the state name, then click on the "Go" button. By clicking the "Go" button the Mapper will produce a state-level map in the next window. ONCE IN THE MAP TOOL THESE ARE THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE TOOLS WITHIN THE MAP The “Select a New State” tool is found on the left side of the map, in the upper left hand corner. Use the “Select a New State” tool to return to the US Map Home Screen and select a new state. The user can choose to view general data on the state they have selected. Simply click on the “Summary Data” tab to the right of the map. The summary data window shows information about the state the user has selected, including the numbers of SmartWay Partner Headquarters, Electrified Truck Stops, NCDC Retrofit Projects, Ethanol (E85) Refueling Stations, and Biodiesel Refueling Stations in that state. This window also includes a link to a document containing all of the state anti-idling laws. This document is in PDF format, and a user will need the free Adobe Acrobat program to open it. If the user does not already have Adobe Reader installed on their computer, use the last link on the tab to download the program to view the Adobe document. The user will find the “Detail Data” tab on the upper right of the map. The “Detail Data” tab shows details of items shown on the map including all the features listed on the “Map Features” tab. For example, if the user selects a SmartWay Partner Headquarters location on the map, the “Detail Data” tab will display information about that location such as the headquarter name, address, city, state, target emissions reductions, and goal year. The user must first select a location in the map in order to view detailed data for that location. The Search tool allows the user to locate information related to each of the layers contained in the Map. To perform a search the user should click on the “Search” tab in the upper right corner of the IAM window. To begin a new search in the IAM tool, the user should select the feature to search from the drop-down list that appears below the title “1) Select Feature to Search:”. Then the user should enter the term that they want to search for in the box below the title “2) Enter Search Text:”. For all features the user can search for Name, Address, City, State (VA, or Virginia), or Zip Code (5-digits). After the user enters the term for which they want to search, they should click the “Search” button. Remember that the search tool is case sensitive; for example searching for the state “alaska” with a lower case “a” will not return any records, the user must search for “Alaska” with a capital “A”. The following features can be searched collectively using Name, Address, City, State, and Zip Code: SmartWay Partner Headquarters, Electrified truck Stops, Truck Stops, NCDC School Bus USA Retrofit Projects (no Zip Code), NCDC Retrofit Projects (no Zip Code), E85 Refueling Stations, and Biodiesel Refueling Stations, Ozone Non-attainment Areas, and PM Non-attainment Areas. NCDC Retrofit Projects and School Bus USA Retrofit Projects can also be searched by Fiscal Year. The user should simply select the feature from the drop down list under the title “1) Select Feature to Search:”, then enter the Fiscal Year in the box below the title “2) Enter Search Text:” Then click on the “Search” button. A complete data set for any feature in the map can be retrieved. To do this, the user should select the feature from the Drop-Down list under the title “1) Select Feature to Search:” and then click the “Search” button. The user should not enter any value in the field below the title “2) Enter Search Text:” The “Map Features” tab shows a list of all the features that can be displayed on the map. The user will find the “Map Features” tab at the bottom right hand side of the map. If the box next to a feature is checked then that feature will be displayed in the map window. After searching for a location, the user may wish to print the results of the search. To do this, click on the tab marked “Printable” located in the lower right hand corner of the interface window. This tab lists three types of search results to print: the last summary data results, the last detail data results, and the last search data results. The user can choose to print one, two, or all three of these results. The option “last summary data results” shows a table with a summary of the data for the most recent Mapper view. The option “last detail data results” shows the most recent Mapper view that utilized the “Get Details” function. And the option “last search data results” shows the most recent Mapper results from the last search. Select the desired results for printing, then click the “Submit” button and a new popup window will appear with the selection in a printer-friendly format. Click the browser’s “Print” button to print the selection. When printing has finished, the window can be closed by clicking on the words “Close Window” in the upper right corner of the pop-up window. For help with using the IAM tool, click on the “Help” tab in the bottom-right corner to the right of the map interface. This displays a list of help documents that relate to the usage and information content of the IAM. The first listing is a help guide related to the IAM tool. It outlines how to navigate through and utilize the tools contained within the IAM. It also defines some relevant terms related to IAM features and data. The next listing links the user to the EPA SmartWay glossary. This web site defines all relevant terms related to the EPA SmartWay program. The third listing connects the user to this web site that outlines the contents of the IAM for the visually impaired. The next listing is a PDF document from the EPA that defines the specific idling laws for 31 different states and the District of Columbia. Not all states are listed as this document is described as the EPA’s “best effort to catalogue, in one location, the variety of existing and proposed idling laws in their entirety”. The final listing in the “Help” tab is a link to downloading Adobe Reader. If the user does not yet have this program installed it should be obtained in order to access the IAM Help Guide, and the EPA’s State Idling Laws documents. Go to Top of Page |
